Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club Endorses Dianne Feinstein for U.S. Senate

San Francisco – The Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club has endorsed Dianne Feinstein for the United States Senate. The San Francisco-based leading progressive and civil rights organization became the nation’s first LGBT focused Democratic club when it was founded in 1971, two years after the Stonewall riots. The Club joins Senators Kamala Harris and Barbara Boxer, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and 22 members of Congress, Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, Secretary of State Alex Padilla, State Controller Betty Yee, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, the East Area Progressive Democrats of Los Angeles, United Farmworkers of America, International Association of Firefighters, Teamsters Joint Council District 7 and many other state and local leaders in endorsing Senator Feinstein’s reelection.

Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club co-chairs Gina Simi and Eric Lukoff said: "From her two decades as a supervisor and then mayor of San Francisco, when our city was at the forefront of bringing LGBT people out of the shadows, to her work in Washington, Senator Dianne Feinstein has always been a champion for our community and the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club. Whether it's fighting for equality for all, sensible gun reforms, universal healthcare, Dreamers or a woman’s right to choose, Senator Feinstein is who California needs to stand up to Trump and his Republican allies in the Senate. We proudly support her reelection and look forward to her continued service on behalf of our community and our state."

Senator Dianne Feinstein said: “I’m so honored to have received an endorsement from the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club, a leading LGBT civil rights organization that I have partnered with since my days as a Member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. Promoting LGBT equality has been a personal priority throughout my career in public life. Whether it is through grassroots efforts, legal actions, or legislative remedies, I’m proud to stand—and will continue to stand—with the LGBT community.”

As California's senior Senator, Dianne Feinstein has focused on solving problems facing California and our nation. Her accomplishments include legislation increasing vehicle fuel economy standards; preserving the Mojave Desert, Lake Tahoe and our forests; consumer protection, food safety and cyber security; drought relief; securing funding for critical projects; and commonsense gun reform, including the landmark assault weapons ban.

After serving as the first woman mayor of San Francisco, Feinstein won election to become California’s first woman Senator in 1992. Today, Sen. Feinstein is the first woman to serve as ranking member of the Judiciary Committee and is a senior member of the Appropriations, Intelligence and Rules and Administration committees. And she continues to work on critical issues and fight for California’s values.
