Berkeley – Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich has endorsed Dianne Feinstein’s campaign for re-election. In a letter, he wrote:
I’m pleased and honored to endorse Dianne Feinstein for the U.S. Senate.
Dianne Feinstein’s Senate career has been distinguished. Among her many accomplishments, she was author of the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban. She is the first and only woman to have chaired the Senate Rules Committee and the Select Committee on Intelligence. She was one of the major supporters of the Affordable Care Act, repeatedly voting to defeat initiatives aimed against it.
Feinstein has voted for regulating tobacco as a drug, expanding the Children's Health Insurance Program, negotiating bulk purchases for Medicare prescription drugs, allowing re-importation of pharmaceuticals from Canada, allowing patients to sue HMOs and collect punitive damages, and including prescription drugs under Medicare.
She was instrumental in releasing to the public the Senate Intelligence Committee report on CIA torture, calling the government's detention and interrogation program a "stain on our values and on our history.” And she has been resolute in her criticism of Russian intervention in the 2016 election. After reviewing the intelligence community’s reports, she said publicly that Russian intervention in the 2016 election affected the outcome of that election.
I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Senator Feinstein for many years, and I am thankful to her for her willingness to continue to serve this nation.
Robert B. Reich
Former U.S. Secretary of Labor
In response, Senator Dianne Feinstein said: “Secretary Reich served our nation with distinction, and as Secretary of the Labor he helped preside over the greatest economic expansion in modern American history. He has been a tireless fighter for working people his entire career and I am honored to have his support.”
Secretary Reich joins President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Governor Jerry Brown, Senator Kamala Harris, Senator Barbara Boxer, US House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and 25 members of Congress, Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, Secretary of State Alex Padilla, State Controller Betty Yee, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, United Farmworkers of America, International Association of Firefighters, Teamsters Joint Council District 7, AFT College Staff Guild Local 1521A, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, California National Organization for Women, Emily’s List, Equality California, Feminist Majority, Giffords: Courage to Fight Gun Violence, Human Rights Campaign, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, National Women’s Political Caucus, NARAL Pro-Choice America, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and many state and local leaders across California who have endorsed Senator Feinstein’s reelection.
Since her election in 1992, Sen. Feinstein has focused on solving problems facing California and our nation. In June, she carried every county and won the 2018 California Primary by more than 2 million votes for reelection to the US Senate.
