Los Angeles – Former President Barack Obama has endorsed Senator Dianne Feinstein’s campaign for reelection. Obama and Feinstein served together in the US Senate from 2005 to 2008 and they continued to work together on shared priorities when Obama became the 44th President of the United States.
President Obama said: “I’m proud to give Dianne Feinstein my strong endorsement for her reelection to the United States Senate. She’s always been an indispensable leader for California, and we became dear friends and partners in the fight to guarantee affordable healthcare and economic opportunity for everybody; to protect our planet from climate change, and our kids from gun violence. I ask Californians to join me in supporting Dianne Feinstein’s reelection and returning one of America’s most effective champions for progress to the Senate.”
Senator Feinstein said: “It means a great deal to me to receive President Obama’s endorsement, and I’m thankful and honored for his trust.
“Barack Obama was a singular President with a remarkable legacy that will truly stand the test of time. He saved our economy, secured passage of Obamacare and reformed Wall Street to protect working families. Any one of those accomplishments would elevate him, but he did so much more. He repealed Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, he ended the Iraq War, he gave the order to take out Osama bin Laden, the list goes on and on.
“President Obama had the grace, wisdom and even-handedness that we quickly came to expect from a president – and that we’re now so sorely disappointed by its absence. I’ll do my level best every day to build on President Obama’s accomplishments and carry his torch forward, no matter the obstacles that stand in our way.”
President Obama joins Vice President Joe Biden, Governor Jerry Brown, Senator Kamala Harris, Senator Barbara Boxer, US House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and 24 members of Congress, Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, Secretary of State Alex Padilla, State Controller Betty Yee, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, United Farmworkers of America, International Association of Firefighters, Teamsters Joint Council District 7, AFT College Staff Guild Local 1521A, and many state and local leaders across California who have endorsed Senator Feinstein’s reelection.
Since her election in 1992, Sen. Feinstein has focused on solving problems facing California and our nation. Her accomplishments include legislation increasing vehicle fuel economy standards; protecting amateur athletes from sexual abuse; preserving the Mojave Desert, Lake Tahoe and our forests; consumer protection, food safety and cyber security; drought relief; securing funding for critical projects; and commonsense gun reform, including the landmark assault weapons ban.
Sen. Feinstein’s career has been one of firsts – she was the first woman President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the first woman Mayor of San Francisco, the first woman elected Senator of California, the first woman member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the first woman to be ranking member of the Committee. She also was the first woman to chair the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the Senate Rules and Administration Committee. Today, she continues to work on critical issues and fight for California’s values.
